These Ford fans are happy. The Mustang Shelby GT500 is back soon, Ford has confirmed the next revelation in a few weeks. The last time we saw the GT500, it had a solid rear axle, 662 supercharged horsepower in the front and all sorts of retro elements in between. In the world of Mustang, a lot has changed in the last few years and does not exist anymore. What is to ask what awaits the next generation. Here is everything we know about the Shelby GT500 vintage 2020.
Carroll Shelby tackled his first Mustang in the mid-1960s, it was the first generation. Since then, his name has been linked to that of the famous "pony car". The Shelby GT500 will rise from the ashes in 2007 under the name Mustang and its supercharged V8 will go up to 320 km / h. Then it will disappear in 2015 with the introduction of the sixth generation of the car. The Shelby GT350 with its naturally aspirated V8 has taken the lead, and it certainly is not a collapsing car in itself. Ford fans are looking forward to the return of the GT500 since its departure.
Just before the Detroit Auto Show in January, Ford released a teaser video that confirmed that a new GT500 is finally on its way to 2019, but we did not know much else. But throughout 2018, clues were sown!
What will she look like?
Camouflaged prototypes have been surprised several times since the first teaser video, and we've also seen other teasers released by Ford. It is obvious that it is a mustang of the current generation, which is aesthetically and aggressively revised and corrected from the hood to the rear bumper, in particular to improve the cooling and to increase the aerodynamic support. With a massive shield and a gaping grille, a huge rear wing and special rims.
We can not ignore the recently published photos on social networks. We think of the user-posted sinister_lifestyle, who introduces us without camouflage, what looks like the GT500. in his traditional, blue dress with the white stripes on the top. If the picture is correct, there are significant aerodynamic changes to the front bumper, suggesting that the GT500 might be more manoeuvrable than before.
And under the hood?
No specific engine has been confirmed yet, but we know that the engine is charging – especially since Ford posted this teaser on Facebook
It is said that the V8 5.2 of the current Shelby GT350 will be the one to be found under the hood of the GT500. In January, Ford said its new muscle car will produce at least 700 horsepower (522 kilowatts). The latest teaser – just released at the Los Angeles Show in 2018 – says the car "develops more than 650 horsepower". Of course, this could still mean that the engine delivers more than 700 horsepower, which makes sense to us, considering that Chevrolet and Dodge go beyond that figure.
Another alleged leak last August – this time on the Mustang6G.com website – would have listed many specifications of the GT500, including displacement, 5.2 liters and 720 hp for a torque of 881 Nm. The source has never been confirmed, but some additional Numbers have cast doubt on the credibility of the image, including an advertised curb weight of 4,225 pounds and a top speed of 305 km / h. It's much heavier than the GT350 and much slower than the previous generation GT500.
What else do we need to know?
This new GT500 will inaugurate several elements of the Shelby Mustang series. For starters, Ford has already said it will be the most powerful model of a production vehicle in the history of the Blue Oval. It's also the first Shelby GT500 to feature a fully independent suspension (the Cobra SVT was fitted with an IRS between 1999 and 2004, but did not wear a Shelby badge), the sixth generation 2015 Mustang standard. Si That's good Things, a rumor also reports that the new "Stang" could be the first Shelby that offers no manual transmission. Instead we have to deal with an automatic dual-clutch transmission, perhaps with optional paddles on the steering wheel. However, some spy photos showed an apparent manual transmission. There is hope ..
When will we see it?
Take your diaries with you, the brand new Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will be showcased at the Detroit 2018 Show on January 14th.
